Varieties of Jewish Experience
Synopsis
This is not a primer on the branches of Judaism as may be inferred from the title. In 11 essays reprinted from Yeshiva University's Orthodox Forum series, Rabbi Lichtenstein (Yeshivat Har Etzion, Israel) applies the lens of halakhah (Jewish law) to issues facing modern Orthodox Jews. Issues discussed include the marital relationship, the priority of Torah study vs. practice as expounded in the rabbinic text Pirkei Avot, in-group vs. broader charitable giving, relations with secular Jews, and defining spirituality.
