Synopsis

Most people do not have the time to study the parsha in depth every week, yet merely reading through it can result in a very unsatisfying “skim” of our most significant text. The worksheets found in this book, one per parsha, present an opportunity for a more involved reading of the text, which will lead to a more thorough understanding and inspire deeper thought. Every parsha contains twenty-two questions, or clues, that follow an א–ת format: the answer to the first clue begins with a word that starts with the letter alef, the answer to the second clue with a word that begins with the letter bet, and so on. In addition to demanding an active, more involved read of the text, the clues (and their answers) were specifically chosen to highlight significant ideas and themes. This book provides “clue and answer” sheets for all fifty-four parshiyot, focused on the text itself. (Examples of questions - פ: One of the two Egyptian midwives; צ: She saved the day - and Moshe - with a rock; ק: Bnei Yisrael scattered all over Egypt to collect this.) By reading carefully in order to find the answers to the clues, your read of the parsha will not only become one of active involvement, but will also lead to an appreciation of its deeper themes. Review the entire parsha in a challenging and fun way—by yourself, with friends, or with family. Challenge yourself, or others. Parents can test their children; children can test their parents! Good for all ages and backgrounds; assumes a basic ability to read the Hebrew text.
