Uriel EitamSynopsis
Rabbi Yehuda Leon Ashkenazi, known as Manitou (1922-1996), was one of the most unique and profound scholars and thinkers of the past generation. He was active in Algeria, France, and ultimately, in Jerusalem, combining Western and Eastern thought, and applying it to the revival of the state of the Jewish people. Drawing on the traditions of the Kabbala, and a deep familiarity with Western philosophy, Rabbi Ashkenazi developed an original Jewish philosophy which carries a message for the Jewish people, in all its streams, and for humanity as a whole. In the decades since his passing, about twenty books based on his teachings have been published, and interest in his thought has steadily grown in Israeli society among both young and old. But among the many books written, none have provided an introduction into his thinking and a summary of the main points of his approach. For the first time, this book provides a systematic introduction to Rabbi Ashkenazi's thought, offering a window into his comprehensive philosophy and his published works. With his clear, systematic style, Rabbi Eitam leads the reader, step by step, into Rabbi Ashkenazi's world and his fascinating and innovative Torah approach.
