Authors
Daniel Jonah GoldhagenSynopsis
'Hitler's Willing Executioners: Ordinary Germans and the Holocaust' argues that the vast majority of ordinary Germans were 'willing executioners' in the Holocaust committed against the European Jews. Goldhagen presents his thesis that the widespread antisemitism in Germany, seen as an eliminationist outlook, led ordinary Germans to kill Jews enthusiastically during the Holocaust. The book challenges the previous notions that the killings were performed only by SS soldiers and that ordinary citizens were either unaware of or unwilling participants in the atrocities.
