Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaCohen Kook

Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaCohen Kook (1865-1935) was the first Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of British Mandatory Palestine and is considered one of the fathers of religious Zionism. His philosophical and theological writings blend traditional Jewish thought with modern day philosophy. Rabbi Kook's extensive works discuss the importance of the land of Israel and its role in the redemption of the Jewish people. He was known for his saintly character, his support for the Jewish settlement in Israel, and his efforts to bridge gaps between various Jewish communities.
