Immanuel Jakobovits
Immanuel Jakobovits was born in 1921 in Königsberg, Prussia, and became a prominent rabbi and Jewish thinker. He served as the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth from 1967 until 1991. Jakobovits was known for his writings on Jewish law and ethics, particularly in the field of medical ethics. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1981 and made a life peer in 1988, taking the title Baron Jakobovits. He was influential in promoting a dialogue between science and religion and was respected for his contributions to both Jewish and non-Jewish communities.
