Zeev Raban
Zeev Raban (1890-1970), born Wolf Rawicki, was a leading figure in the Bezalel school of art in Jerusalem, which was pivotal in shaping the visual culture of the early State of Israel. Trained in Europe, Raban moved to what was then Ottoman Palestine in 1912 and became a prominent artist and teacher at the Bezalel Academy. His work is characterized by a blend of Art Nouveau and Orientalist styles, and he was instrumental in developing a distinctively Jewish iconography that drew on religious and historical themes.
