King James VI and I

King James VI and I was the king of Scotland as James VI from 1567 and king of England and Ireland as James I from 1603 until his death in 1625. He was the first monarch to be called the king of Great Britain. He is perhaps best known for his sponsorship of the King James Bible, also known as the Authorized Version, which was first published in 1611. The King James Bible is one of the most influential and widely read books in the English language, and its literary legacy is immense. James was a complex figure, known for his wisdom and his efforts to promote learning and the arts, but also for his struggles with the Parliament and his controversial personal life.
