Yosef Karo

Rabbi Yosef Karo, also known as Joseph Karo, was born in 1488 in Toledo, Spain, and died in 1575 in Safed, Ottoman Empire (now Israel). He is best known for his monumental works on Jewish law, particularly the Shulchan Aruch, which is considered one of the most authoritative compilations of Jewish law. After the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492, his family settled in the Ottoman Empire. Karo became a prominent rabbinical authority, contributing significantly to Jewish law and thought.
