H.A. Rey

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1898. He and his wife Margret Rey were the creators of the beloved children’s character Curious George. Before fleeing the Nazi occupation, Hans studied philosophy and natural sciences at the University of Hamburg. The couple first got the idea for Curious George while in France, and the manuscript they carried with them on their bicycles to escape Europe eventually became the first of many books in the series. Hans' illustrations define the charming and playful style that has made the Curious George series a favorite among children.
