Michaeleen Doucleff

Michaeleen Doucleff is the author of 'Hunt, Gather, Parent: What Ancient Cultures Can Teach Us About the Lost Art of Raising Happy, Helpful Little Humans.' With a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, Doucleff brings a scientific background to her exploration of parenting practices around the world. Before writing her book, she was a correspondent for NPR’s Science Desk, where she reported on outbreaks, epidemics, and health-related topics.

Doucleff's interest in parenting techniques was sparked by her own challenges as a mother, which led her to investigate and compare parenting approaches in various cultures. Her research took her to places like Mexico, Tanzania, and the Arctic, where she observed and participated in traditional parenting practices. Her book combines personal narrative with scientific research, aiming to offer practical advice to parents based on time-tested wisdom.

Her work has been recognized for its insightful integration of anthropology, history, and psychology. Doucleff continues to contribute to discussions on parenting through various media platforms, sharing her findings and helping parents to apply ancient knowledge to modern parenting challenges.
