Rabbi Yosef Chaim

Rabbi Yosef Chaim of Baghdad, also known as the Ben Ish Chai, was born in 1835 and died in 1909. He was a leading Sephardic rabbi and a prolific writer on Jewish law and mysticism. Rabbi Yosef Chaim is best known for his work 'Ben Ish Chai', which is a comprehensive guide to Jewish law and ethics, named after his father and based on the weekly Torah portion.

His teachings incorporate Kabbalistic themes and are still widely studied and followed in Sephardic communities around the world. Rabbi Yosef Chaim was also known for his piety and his miraculous stories, which have been told and retold within the Jewish community.

In addition to 'Ben Ish Chai', Rabbi Yosef Chaim authored numerous other works, including responsa, legal texts, and commentaries on various religious books. His influence continues to be felt in both the study and practice of Jewish law, particularly among Sephardic Jews.
