Rabbi Moshe Feinstein
Rabbi Moshe Feinstein (1895-1986) was one of the most prominent Orthodox Jewish rabbis and halachic authorities of the 20th century. Born in Uzda, near Minsk, Belarus, he became a rabbinic prodigy early in his life. Rabbi Feinstein was renowned for his vast knowledge in Jewish law and his compassionate approach to both legal and personal matters affecting the Jewish community.
In 1936, Rabbi Feinstein emigrated to the United States, where he eventually became the Rosh Yeshiva of Mesivtha Tifereth Jerusalem in New York City. His influence extended beyond the yeshiva as he became a leading authority in the Orthodox community, particularly in the realm of Jewish law, where his decisions and writings continue to be highly influential.
Rabbi Feinstein authored numerous responsa, compiled in the multi-volume 'Igrot Moshe'. These texts are considered essential in the study of modern Jewish law and are frequently cited in halachic discussions. His works reflect a deep understanding of both the letter and the spirit of Jewish law, making significant contributions to Jewish thought and practice.
