Nathan Sternharz

Nathan Sternharz, often known as Reb Noson, was a key disciple and scribe of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov. Born in the late 18th century in Ukraine, he is most renowned for his role in documenting and disseminating the teachings of his revered teacher. His meticulous recordings of Rebbe Nachman's lessons and sayings have been crucial in preserving the rich legacy of the Breslov movement.
His literary contributions include not only the transcription of Rebbe Nachman’s oral teachings but also his own insightful commentaries and thoughts. Among his notable works is 'Likutey Moharan', an edited version of Rebbe Nachman’s teachings, which has become a fundamental text in Breslov Hasidism and Jewish mysticism. His efforts were pivotal in establishing the foundations upon which the Breslov community stands today.
Despite facing significant adversity, including the skepticism and sometimes hostility of contemporary Jewish leaders, Nathan Sternharz's unwavering dedication helped ensure that Rebbe Nachman's spiritual insights did not vanish with his death. His works continue to be studied and revered, securing his place as a vital figure in the preservation and propagation of Breslov teachings.
