Shmuel David Luzzatto

Shmuel David Luzzatto (1800-1865), also known by his Hebrew acronym Shadal, was a prominent Italian Jewish scholar, poet, and a member of the Wissenschaft des Judentums movement. His works span a variety of fields including biblical exegesis, Hebrew philology, and Jewish philosophy. Luzzatto's approach to biblical interpretation was critical and rationalistic, often challenging traditional views. He was deeply engaged in the cultural context of the scriptures and sought to harmonize rationalism with faith.
