Rabbi Yehuda Leon Ashkenazi, also known as Manitou, was a prominent French-Israeli thinker and Jewish philosopher. Born in Oran, Algeria, in 1922, he moved to France where he became a key figure in the Jewish intellectual revival after World War II. Manitou was known for his unique approach to Jewish texts, combining traditional rabbinic study with modern philosophy and existential questions. He was influential in establishing a dialogue between Jewish tradition and contemporary thought, making significant contributions to Jewish education in France and later in Israel.
