Israel Meir Lau
Rabbi Israel Meir Lau is a prominent rabbi and Holocaust survivor, born on June 1, 1937, in Piotrków Trybunalski, Poland. He survived the Buchenwald concentration camp and immigrated to Israel in 1945. Rabbi Lau was ordained as a rabbi in 1961 and later served as the Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv from 1985, and subsequently as the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel from 1993 to 2003. His tenure in these significant religious roles has been marked by his efforts towards Jewish unity and education, as well as interfaith dialogue.
