Nahum N Glatzer

Nahum Norbert Glatzer (1903–1990) was a Jewish literary scholar, theologian, and editor, renowned for his work in Jewish studies. Born in Lemberg, Austria-Hungary (now Lviv, Ukraine), Glatzer immigrated to the United States in 1938, fleeing the Nazi regime. He was a close student and later a scholarly editor of Franz Rosenzweig’s works, significantly contributing to the dissemination and understanding of Rosenzweig’s philosophy. Glatzer held academic positions at several prestigious universities, including Brandeis University, where he was a professor of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies. His scholarship was vast, encompassing Jewish history, literature, and religious thought, and he was instrumental in introducing English-speaking audiences to many aspects of Jewish culture and intellectual history.
