Moses Cordovero

Moses ben Jacob Cordovero (1522–1570) was a central figure in the historical development of Kabbalah, Jewish mystical thought. Born in Safed, Ottoman Empire (now Israel), he was a leading mystical scholar and cleric, who headed the mystical school in Safed. His works laid down much of the framework for later Kabbalistic interpretation and are considered a cornerstone of mystical theology. Cordovero's comprehensive works sought to harmonize and systematize previous Kabbalistic thoughts, which had been somewhat disparate and varied in nature. His most famous work, Pardes Rimonim, or 'Garden of Pomegranates', systematically categorized the various elements of Kabbalistic philosophy, serving as a reference for future scholars.
