Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel

Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel (1907-1972) was a Polish-born American rabbi and one of the leading Jewish theologians and Jewish philosophers of the 20th century. Heschel received his doctorate at the University of Berlin, and later taught Talmud at the Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums. After being deported by the Nazis, he continued his scholarship in the United States, where he served as a professor of Jewish ethics and Mysticism at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York. Heschel's work explores the relationship between God and man, emphasizing the Hebrew prophets' themes of justice and compassion.
