Julius Lester
Julius Lester was an American writer, educator, photographer, and musician. Born on January 27, 1939, in St. Louis, Missouri, he was known for his work in children's literature as well as his activism during the Civil Rights Movement. Lester's career spanned several genres, including folk music, children's books, and essays. He taught for over three decades at the University of Massachusetts Amherst until his retirement. Lester converted to Judaism in the 1980s, an experience that deeply influenced much of his later work, including his writings on racial identity and spirituality.
