Ovadiah Yosef

Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was a towering figure in Sephardic Jewry and widely recognized as a preeminent Talmudic scholar and halakhic authority. Born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1920, he moved to Jerusalem as a child. Over his career, he served as Israel's Sephardic Chief Rabbi, founded the Shas political party, and authored numerous works on Jewish law and philosophy. His legal decisions and responsa have had a profound influence on the lives of many Sephardic Jews, shaping aspects of both religious practice and Israeli politics.
