Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik

Rabbi Joseph Ber Soloveitchik (1903–1993) was a major American Orthodox rabbi, Talmudist, and modern Jewish philosopher. He was a scion of the Lithuanian Jewish Soloveitchik rabbinic dynasty. As a rosh yeshiva of Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary at Yeshiva University in New York City, Rabbi Soloveitchik launched thousands of students into their rabbinical careers and shaped the training of modern Orthodoxy's rabbis.

Throughout his career, Rabbi Soloveitchik advocated for a synthesis between secular knowledge and the Jewish intellectual tradition. His teachings emphasized the centrality of Jewish law and ethics in conjunction with a broad education in Western philosophy and science. He was known for his intellectual rigor and his ability to engage with complex philosophical and ethical issues, making him a pivotal figure in the development of modern Orthodox Judaism.

His best-known philosophical work, 'Halakhic Man', is considered a seminal text in the field of Jewish thought.
