Joachim Neugroschel
Joachim Neugroschel was a noted translator, editor, and publisher who was born in Vienna in 1938 and passed away in 2011. He was known for his translations from French, German, Italian, Russian, and Yiddish. Neugroschel translated more than 200 books, including works by Kafka, Proust, and Thomas Mann, making significant contributions to the availability of European literature in English.
Throughout his career, Neugroschel received several awards for his translation work, including three PEN Translation Awards and the French-American Foundation Translation Prize. His efforts helped to bring many Yiddish works to a broader audience, preserving and celebrating Jewish culture and literature.
