Wu Jingxiong

Wu Jingxiong, also known as John C.H. Wu, was a notable Chinese jurist, author, and scholar. Born in 1899 in Ningbo, Zhejiang, China, Wu became a significant figure in the development of Chinese legal thought and a bridge between Eastern and Western philosophical and legal traditions. He converted to Catholicism in 1937, which deeply influenced his philosophical and legal work.

Wu Jingxiong pursued his higher education in the United States, where he attended the University of Michigan and later Harvard Law School. His academic and professional work included translating the Christian Bible into Chinese and serving as a justice of the Supreme Court of China. His writings blend elements of Christian thought, Chinese tradition, and Western legalism, making significant contributions to legal philosophy and comparative law.

Beyond his legal and philosophical writings, Wu Jingxiong also wrote extensively on personal and spiritual matters, reflecting his deep religious convictions and cultural insights. His book 'Beyond East and West' is a memoir that discusses his spiritual journey and intellectual explorations, bridging various cultural and philosophical divides. Wu passed away in 1986, leaving behind a legacy of profound influence on Chinese intellectual and religious thought.
