Dr. Ruth Calderon is a prominent Israeli academic and politician, known for her efforts to revive Hebrew culture and promote a pluralistic approach to Judaism. She has a Ph.D. in Talmud from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Calderon has been a trailblazer in the study and teaching of Jewish texts in a secular context, aiming to make traditional Jewish sources accessible and relevant to all Israelis.

In 2013, Calderon was elected to the Israeli Knesset as a member of the Yesh Atid party. During her tenure, she was noted for her inaugural speech where she taught a Talmudic text, reflecting her commitment to Jewish education and cultural dialogue. Her political work focused on education, civil marriage, and women's rights, among other issues.

Apart from her political career, Calderon founded several institutions dedicated to Jewish learning, including Alma Home for Hebrew Culture and Beit Midrash Elul in Jerusalem.
