Israel Abrahams

Israel Abrahams (1858–1925) was a prominent British scholar of Jewish studies. Born in London, he was a part of a well-known Jewish scholarly family. Abrahams was educated at Jews' College, London and later at the University of Cambridge, where he studied classics and oriental languages. His academic career was largely associated with Jews' College, where he served as a lecturer and then as the principal.

Throughout his life, Abrahams wrote extensively on Jewish life, history, and literature. He is best known for his works on Jewish life in the Middle Ages, and his studies on Jewish folklore and ethics. His writings include 'Jewish Life in the Middle Ages' and 'Chapters on Jewish Literature'. Abrahams was highly respected for his deep knowledge and balanced approach to the study of Judaism.

Abrahams was also involved in the broader scholarly community, contributing to the Jewish Encyclopedia and participating in various academic societies. His works continue to be influential in the fields of Jewish studies and history, reflecting his commitment to scholarly rigor and a deep understanding of Jewish culture and religion.
