Lucy Dawidowicz
Lucy Dawidowicz was an American historian and author known for her books on modern Jewish history and the Holocaust, including the well-known 'The War Against the Jews: 1933–1945'. Born on June 16, 1915, in New York City, she was a prominent figure in Holocaust studies. Dawidowicz's work emphasized the destruction of European Jewry as central to understanding the Nazi agenda. She studied at Hunter College and Columbia University, and later at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, which was then located in Vilna, Poland, before World War II. Dawidowicz argued that the Holocaust was a premeditated genocide and critiqued various post-war interpretations of the Holocaust. She passed away on December 5, 1990.
