Succession is a primary issue that is common to every form of human collective or organization. The Book of Joshua is the chronicle of arguably the most difficult change in leadership ever faced by man. Joshua was charged with the mission of replacing Moses, the only human being to have spoken with the Creator face-to-face. Through a quintessential act of leadership, Joshua's mentor facilitated this transition. In keeping with his defining trait of humility, Moses, the most humble of all men, dealt directly with his own succession by pleading with G-d to provide a replacement.
