Rabbi Avraham Yeshayahu Karelitz

Rabbi Avraham Yeshayahu Karelitz, known as the Chazon Ish, was a prominent Orthodox rabbi and one of the most influential Torah scholars of his time. Born on November 7, 1878, in Kosava, Belarus, he moved to Vilnius at a young age to study under Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik. The Chazon Ish was renowned for his deep understanding of Jewish law and his works on Jewish ethics and philosophy.

In 1933, Rabbi Karelitz immigrated to what was then the British Mandate of Palestine and settled in Bnei Brak, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the city as a center of ultra-Orthodox Judaism. His rulings and writings continue to influence the Haredi community worldwide. The Chazon Ish's approach combined a profound reverence for traditional Jewish texts with a pragmatic consideration of contemporary issues.

The Chazon Ish authored numerous works, including his seminal work 'Emunah U'Bitachon' which explores the themes of faith and trust in God. His teachings emphasize the importance of both rigorous intellectual study of the Torah and a sincere, heartfelt connection to God. Rabbi Karelitz passed away on November 24, 1953, but his legacy endures through his extensive scholarly output and the lasting impact he had on Jewish thought and practice.
