Lawrence H Schiffman

Lawrence H. Schiffman is a prominent scholar in the fields of Dead Sea Scrolls, Jewish history, and Biblical Studies. He is a Professor of Jewish Studies at New York University. Schiffman's research has been pivotal in understanding the Jewish background of early Christianity and the textual and historical analysis of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

He received his BA, MA, and PhD degrees from Brandeis University, where he specialized in the study of the Hebrew and Aramaic literature of the Second Temple period. His doctoral dissertation was on the halakhic section of the Damascus Document, a text among the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Schiffman has authored numerous books and articles, including his well-known work, 'Reclaiming the Dead Sea Scrolls', which addresses the legal, historical, and theological issues presented by the scrolls. He has been involved in extensive lecturing and teaching, bringing insights from his research to both academic and public audiences.
