Margret Rey

Margret Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1906. She met her husband, H.A. Rey, in Brazil and they moved to Paris as newlyweds. They were Jewish and fled Paris in 1940 on self-made bicycles, carrying the manuscript for the first Curious George book with them. After escaping Europe, they settled in New York City. Margret Rey's collaboration with her husband resulted in a series of books centered around the now-iconic character, Curious George, which has delighted children for generations.
