רמבן

רמבן, whose full name is Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman, was a medieval Jewish scholar, philosopher, physician, and biblical commentator, widely known by the acronym Ramban. Born in 1194 in Girona, Catalonia, he became one of the most prominent figures in the Jewish community of Spain in the 13th century. Ramban is best known for his commentary on the Torah, which blends peshat (literal or plain meaning) and derash (homiletic interpretations), often incorporating mystical insights from Kabbalah. His works also include legal writings and disputations, most notably the Disputation of Barcelona in 1263, where he defended Judaism against Christian critiques. Ramban's influence extends beyond his lifetime, with his works continuing to be studied for their deep theological insights and scholarly breadth.
