Alan Morinis

Alan Morinis is a well-known figure in the contemporary revival of the Mussar movement, a Jewish ethical, educational, and cultural movement that developed in 19th century Eastern Europe. Born and raised in a culturally Jewish but non-observant home, he pursued a career in film and anthropology before turning to the study of Mussar following a personal crisis in the mid-1990s. Morinis has since dedicated himself to studying and teaching Mussar, becoming one of its leading contemporary proponents. He founded The Mussar Institute in 2004, which is dedicated to the study and practice of Mussar teachings. Through his writings and teachings, Morinis has made Mussar accessible to a broader audience, emphasizing its relevance in modern life. His approach is non-dogmatic, focusing on personal growth and spiritual development through introspection and ethical practice. Morinis is the author of several books on Mussar, including 'Everyday Holiness' and 'Climbing Jacob's Ladder', each offering a practical guide to integrating Mussar practices into daily life. His work has been influential in promoting spiritual and ethical development, resonating with people of various backgrounds seeking meaningful and principled lives.
