Rabbi Abraham J Twerski MD
Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski was a distinguished psychiatrist, prolific author, and Hasidic rabbi. Born in 1930 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was a scion of the Chernobyl Hasidic dynasty. Rabbi Twerski's extensive education included a medical degree from Marquette University in 1951, after which he specialized in psychiatry. He was particularly known for his expertise in the field of addiction therapy and founded the Gateway Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, recognized as one of the leading drug treatment facilities in the United States.
Throughout his career, Rabbi Twerski authored over 60 books on topics ranging from psychiatric and spiritual matters to personal growth and self-esteem, integrating his religious life with his medical practice.
